چکیده

We study how well KamLAND, the first terrestrial neutrino experiment capable of addressing the solar neutrino problem, will perform in ascertaining whether or not the large mixing angle MSW solution (with 10 < ∆m21 < 10 −3 eV and oscillation amplitude sin2 θ12 > 0.2) is correct. We find that in a year of operation KamLAND will provide unequivocal evidence for or against this solution. Furthermore, its sensitivity to the three-neutrino oscillation parameters in this region is sufficiently acute as to determine ∆m21 to approximately ±10% (for sin 2 θ12 > 0.7) and to fix sin2 θ12 to within ±0.1 (at the 3σ level) with three years of accumulated data, independent of the value of θ13 . The KamLAND reactor antineutrino experiment has detected a 3.4σ flux suppression relative to the expectation if no neutrino oscillations occur. We combine Kam-LAND data with solar neutrino data and show that the LMA solution is the only viable oscillation solution to the solar neutrino problem at the 4.4σ C. L.

LMA MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem and first KamLAND results

The first KamLAND results are in a very good agreement with the predictions made on the basis of the solar neutrino data and the LMA realization of the MSW mechanism. We perform a combined analysis of the KamLAND (rate, spectrum) and the solar neutrino data with a free boron neutrino flux fB. The best fit values of neutrino parameters are ∆m2 = 7.3 · 10−5 eV2, tan2 θ = 0.41 and fB = 1.05 with t...

Results from the Neutral Current Detector phase of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory

The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) was a heavy water Cerenkov detector designed to solve the long-standing “solar neutrino problem”; a discrepancy between the measured and predicted flux of electron-flavour solar neutrinos. SNO measured the rate of charged-current and neutral-current reactions of neutrinos in heavy water and was able to demonstrate that neutrinos from the Sun, produced in t...

Solving the Solar Neutrino Puzzle with KamLAND and Solar Data

We study what will be learnt about the solar neutrino puzzle and solar neutrino oscillations once the data from the KamLAND reactor neutrino experiment (soon to become available) are combined with those from the current solar neutrino experiments. We find that, in agreement with previous estimates, if the solution to the solar neutrino puzzle falls on the LMA region, KamLAND should be able to “...

The Solar Neutrino Problem after the first results from Kamland

The first results from the KamLAND experiment have provided confirmational evidence for the Large Mixing Angle (LMA) MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem. We do a global analysis of solar and the recently announced KamLAND data (both rate and spectrum) and investigate its effect on the allowed region in the ∆m − tan θ plane. The best-fit from a combined analysis which uses the KamLAND rat...
